Arrow Arum (Peltandra virginica)

Aquatic plant with long stalked pointy heart shaped leaves. 2-3’ tall.

Yellow inflorescence in late spring to early summer.

In midsummer brown berries develop and droop into the water.

The berries that fall off float on the water distributing seeds, and becoming food for wood ducks and king rails.

Grows in shallow, slow-moving waterways.
-
New York native.
