Arrow Arum (Peltandra virginica)

  • Aquatic plant with long stalked pointy heart shaped leaves. 2-3’ tall.

  • Yellow inflorescence in late spring to early summer.

  • In midsummer brown berries develop and droop into the water.

  • The berries that fall off float on the water distributing seeds, and becoming food for wood ducks and king rails.

  • Grows in shallow, slow-moving waterways.

  • New York native.
