Black Locust

Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)

  • Leaves divided into oval to rectangular leaflets up to 2 inches long and 1 inch wide

  • Leaves rounded at the ends and with smooth margins.

  • Blue-green, feathery foliage.

  • Can grow to be anywhere between 30 and 70 feet tall.

  • Branching tends to fork and become crooked.

  • Fragrant, white, pea-like blossoms.

  • Flowers appearing in April and May. 

  • Native to the southeastern United States but has been widely planted and naturalized throughout the US.
