Long stalked plant with narrow lance-shaped leaves.

Large dome-shaped flower heads composed of several branches containing clusters of pink to purple flowers bloom in late summer.

Attracts many pollinators including a variety of birds and butterflies as well as honey bees.

The seeds are eaten by swamp sparrows.

Grows in meadows, marshes and stream banks.
