Dense, rounded shrub with dark green shiny leaves.

Clusters of small white flowers bloom in spring before the leaves return.

In late summer to early fall fruit ripens to a dull purple or crimson color.

The flowers provide nectar for native bees and the fruits are eaten by a variety of birds.

Grows in dunes and sandy coastal soils.
