  • Fast spreading climbing legume with leaves composed of several pairs on elongated leaflets.

  • Small purple flowers bloom in midsummer, followed by flat, hairy seed pods.

  • Often used in agriculture as a cover crop because of its relationship with nitrogen fixing soil bacteria.

  • Competes with native plants for valuable resources when it escapes cultivation.

  • Southern Europe and North African native.
