Clusters of tiny yellow flowers gather into large flat-topped flower heads, similar in appearance to Queen Anne’s Lace.

Dry seed heads turn purple in late summer. 1-3’ tall.

Attracts butterflies.

Larval host of black swallowtail butterflies.

Food source for native bees.

Grows in moist sandy to sandy-clay soils.

Native to Eastern US floodplains.
