Golden Alexanders (Zizia aurea)

  • Clusters of tiny yellow flowers gather into large flat-topped flower heads, similar in appearance to Queen Anne’s Lace.

  • Dry seed heads turn purple in late summer. 1-3’ tall.

  • Attracts butterflies.

  • Larval host of black swallowtail butterflies.

  • Food source for native bees.

  • Grows in moist sandy to sandy-clay soils.

  • Native to Eastern US floodplains.
